Songs of Life
A left-handed guitarist who grew up in Chesterville, Durban, raised on the sounds of his grandmother's Jewish harp. In his late teens he picked up the guitar. By his twenties he was playing the Blue Note, Smalls, and Saint Mark's Zinno's in New York City, studying under jazz legend Jackie McLean at the University of Hartford. He played alongside Kenny Barron, Cecil McBee, and Hilton Ruiz before returning to South Africa in 1995 to write the next chapter. His 2006 album "Getting to Heaven Alive" won the SAMA for Best Instrumental Jazz Album.
